How To Decorate A Hutch In The Living Room

An antique hutch styled simply but beautifully in this Indiana farmhouse

Hi, sweet friends. Normally when I think of summertime, I think of life at a much slower pace. Lazy summer days filled with sunshine and sweetness tea and lightning bugs and bonfires. But this summer so far has been pretty hectic with a wisdom tooth removal surgery, baseball tournament after baseball game tournament for the boys, embarking on a new run a risk to open a small-scale store at a local antique shop, and having to say farewell to our 12 year old cocker spaniel pup. It hasn't exactly been the laid-back summer I imagined we would take, but we've been enjoying each and every mean solar day to the fullest, every bit crazy every bit information technology has been.

I think our niggling farmhouse has reflected this season of busyness, and I've worked on simplifying our decor to feel cozy, at-home, and low maintenance. Only using pieces that I truly love and that tin can be staples in our dwelling year round, regardless of the season. Today I'm joining an amazing grouping of bloggers for a Just Summer Home Tour, as you may remember I did last year. While much hasn't changed in the farmhouse lately, I exercise take 1 space to show y'all that I've been working on this summertime, and I love how our living room looks now afterward moving this antique hutch from the entryway into our living room.

This hutch is one of my nearly treasured pieces of furniture in the house, and while I loved having information technology in the entryway, it felt a little big and overwhelming as soon as you walked into the business firm. I got the crawling to move it into the living room one mean solar day recently, and it became the perfect focal signal for the back wall in the living room. I kept the decor in the hutch simple and neutral, with a soft blanket and pillow, some of my favorite decorative bowls and pitchers, and a basket of miscellaneous quondam linens.

I moved our two grayness chairs in front end of the hutch, and the boys and I love cuddling upward here in the evenings to read books and sentry movies.

It would be very like shooting fish in a barrel to fill up all those shelves to the brim with books and plants and other pretty things, but I find that leaving them more open and carefully edited gives this space such a soothing, calm feeling that I crave right at present. This is how summer looks at our farmhouse, and I'm so glad you stopped past to say how-do-you-do and meet a modest piece of our home. I invite you to visit the residuum of the bloggers on the tour today as well!
